SUMMARY:Cooperation and Governance Models - Bioeconomy Ecosystem Training
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 20 October\, 11:00 – 12:30 CET\n\n\n\nHow can collaborative business models support the transition to a circular bioeconomy? \n\n\n\nThis webinar\, part of BIOECONOMY GIANTS Ecosystem Training series\, explores the role of governance structures\, stakeholder engagement\, and co-creation in developing successful collaborative initiatives. \n\n\n\nParticipants will be introduced to a draft Circular Cooperative Business Model Tool and invited to provide feedback on its framework\, practical relevance\, and potential applications. \n\n\n\n\nRegister here\n\n\n\n\nAbout BIOECONOMY GIANTS\n\n\n\nBIOECONOMY GIANTS aims to unlock the value of Europe’s underutilized biomass by repositioning primary producers—such as farmers\, foresters\, and agri-food actors—not just as raw material suppliers\, but as vital stakeholders in the bioeconomy value chain. The project promotes cooperative and circular bio-based business models (CCBBMs) and fosters innovative collaboration between rural actors and bio-based industries.

SUMMARY:Business Development and Market Uptake - Bioeconomy Ecosystem Training
DESCRIPTION:Monday 19 October\, 11:00 – 13:00 CET\n\n\n\nDeveloping a successful business model in the bioeconomy requires more than having a promising technology\, product or resource. It requires understanding what value is created\, for whom\, which actors and resources are needed\, how value is delivered and captured\, and how economic\, environmental and social objectives can be aligned. \n\n\n\nFor the fourth training of the Bioeconomy GIANTS Ecosystem series\, following a short conceptual introduction\, the Business Model Canvas will be used as a practical framework to explore how bioeconomy business models can be designed\, assessed and improved. \n\n\n\nThrough guided questions\, practical examples and participant discussion\, the session will examine value propositions\, key activities and partnerships\, value capture\, sustainability impacts and ecosystem-level challenges. \n\n\n\nParticipants will be encouraged to relate the Canvas to their own organisations\, projects and bioeconomy initiatives. SUMMARY:Brussels Insider: What comes after Horizon Europe?
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 7 October\, 11:00 – 12:00 CET\n\n\n\nThe first session of our Brussels Insider series\, a new event format decoding the Brussels Bubble for Climate Organisations. In this session\, we will look at Framework Programme 10 (FP10)\, the continuation of the research funding scheme Horizon Europe\, set to run from 2028-2034. \n\n\n\nWhy it matters\n\n\n\nFP10 will shape the funding landscape climate organisations operate in for the next funding cycle. Understanding it now — while it’s still being shaped — means you can position your organisation ahead of the field\, not after the rules are set.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is free for Climate KIC Community members. Log into your account to access your RSVP. \n\n\n\nNot a member? Become a member and get free access to all Brussels Insider sessions\, plus new connections\, visibility\, intelligence and opportunities to grow your organisation. \n\n\n\n\nLOG IN\n\n\n\nJOIN THE COMMUNITY\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is Framework Package 10 (FP10)? \n\n\n\nEvery seven years\, the European Union redesigns how it funds research and innovation across the continent through what’s called a “Framework Programme.” The current one\, Horizon Europe\, runs out in 2027. Its successor — known as FP10 — is being negotiated in Brussels right now\, and it will determine how climate and sustainability organisations access EU funding from 2028 onward.  \n\n\n\nWhy now?\n\n\n\nNothing is finalised yet. Budgets\, priorities\, and structures are still being debated between the European Commission\, Parliament\, and Member States. That makes this exactly the moment when understanding the direction of travel matters most — before the big decisions are locked in.  \n\n\n\nWhat to expect \n\n\n\nJoin senior members of the Climate-KIC policy team\, live from Brussels\, for a plain-language briefing on where things currently stand: what’s being proposed\, what’s contested\, and what it could mean for climate innovators\, SMEs\, researchers\, and mission-driven organisations across Europe — whether you’re a Horizon Europe veteran or have never applied for EU funding before.  \n\n\n\nThis isn’t a one-way presentation. A large part of this session is yours: come share what you’re hearing on the ground\, compare notes with the policy team\, and stress-test what this means for your organisation. \n\n\n\nOn the agenda \n\n\n\nFP10 Briefing — 15 minutes A fast\, plain-language walkthrough of FP10: what it is\, what stage negotiations are at\, and what’s likely to change.  \n\n\n\nOpen Dialogue — 30 minutes The floor is yours. Share your own assessment\, swap notes with the policy team\, and raise what matters to your organisation.  \n\n\n\nFunding Navigator Demo — 10 minutes A first look at our new members-exclusive tool\, bringing Horizon Europe\, LIFE\, and EIT KIC funding opportunities into one place\, so you can stop hunting across a dozen portals and start applying.

SUMMARY:Signals: Reading the External Landscape for Risk and Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 17 September\, 14:00 – 16:00 CEST\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is free for Climate KIC Community members. Log into your account to access your RSVP. \n\n\n\nNot a member? Become a member and get free access to all Signals sessions\, plus new connections\, visibility\, intelligence and opportunities to grow your organisation. \n\n\n\n\nLog in\n\n\n\nJoin the Community\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are living through simultaneous shifts — political\, economic\, social\, technological\, legal\, environmental. Every one of them is throwing off signals right now\, and those signals cut both ways: they carry risk\, but they also carry opportunity for climate action. The organisations that will lead the next decade of climate work are the ones that can anticipate these signals before they land\, categorise them so they’re easier to act on\, and plan for them with confidence\, turning the risk side into resilience\, and the opportunity side into advantage. \n\n\n\nWe’re excited to have you at our session “Signals: Reading the Risks Reshaping Climate Work“. This is a working session\, not a webinar. In small\, facilitated groups\, you’ll take live signals from the external landscape across the PESTLE spectrum – Political\, Economic\, Social\, Technological\, Legal\, Environmental – and interpret what each means for your organisation\, both as risk and as opportunity. Then you’ll zoom out to see how they impact the wider landscape as shared\, systemic risk and opportunity. \n\n\n\nIt’s gamified\, fast-paced\, and built to leave you with a methodology you can actually reuse. \n\n\n\nWhat you can get:\n\n\n\nBefore the session: \n\n\n\n\nExclusive access to a brand-new online / digital card game focused on signals – built by Climate-KIC\, unreleased to the public – a fun and interactive way to get you prepared for the session and explore the opportunities and risks for your organisation.\n\n\n\n\nDuring the session: \n\n\n\n\nA practical methodology for reading signals\, and the risk and opportunity within them\, that you can bring straight back to your organisation\n\n\n\nA sharper eye for how change in one domain (say\, policy) becomes exposure or advantage in another (say\, your funding pipeline)\n\n\n\nA rare room: a broad range of Climate-KIC community members and partners together\, ensuring diverse perspectives and greater collective signal awareness\n\n\n\n\nHow the session runs:\n\n\n\n\nIntro & framing: welcome\, and a quick grounding in what we mean by “signals” and why they matter now\n\n\n\nContextualise your lens: identify the system(s) you work within\, so you’re interpreting signals from the right angle\n\n\n\nSmall groups – read the signals: in facilitated groups of 4–6\, you’ll be handed six real signals across the PESTLE framework\n\n\n\nSmall groups – discuss implications: interpret what each signal means for your organisation as risk and opportunity\, then populate a shared map from a systemic view\n\n\n\nBreak\n\n\n\nShare-back: groups surface what they found\, risks and opportunities identified\, and connect the dots across the room\n\n\n\nClose: key takeaways and how to carry the methodology forward\n\n\n\n\nA limited session\n\n\n\nThis only works in small groups where every voice matters\, so we’re capping it at 25 participants. \n\n\n\nNo passive seats. If you’re in the room\, you’re in a breakout\, building the map with other members. The session’s relevance to your organisation depends on your participation. \n\n\n\nPlease note: group outputs from this session will be anonymised and shared publicly as part of our collective signal-mapping work. \n\n\n\nChange is already in motion across every PESTLE domain. The question is whether your organisation sees it coming: as a threat to brace for\, or an opening to seize. Come train the muscle for both. \n\n\n\nSpots are limited. Secure your place now. RSVP from the form on top of the page.

SUMMARY:The Nexus: Online Networking Session #1
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 3 September\, 14:00 – 15:00 CEST\n\n\n\nThe Nexus is the new Climate KIC Community-powered online event format aimed at connecting innovators and knowledge holders with enablers and implementers. \n\n\n\nThis first edition is dedicated to the capabilities our Community can bring to European and beyond funding opportunities (Horizon Europe\, LIFE\, EIC Pathfinder). \n\n\n\nRather than organising the session around single calls\, we organise it around what member organisations know and do: expertise\, technologies\, pilot sites\, coordination experience\, market access. You don’t need to have a target call in mind to take part\, you might be a specialist in a technology or skill who never considered applying for a particular grant\, until an organisation building a proposal tells you they need exactly that capability. \n\n\n\nWhy join? \n\n\n\n\nBuild connections\, partnerships and consortia for the upcoming calls\n\n\n\nMake your capabilities visible to organisations building proposals right now\n\n\n\nDiscover funding pathways you hadn’t considered for your expertise\n\n\n\nMeet potential future partners in a structured\, purposeful way\n\n\n\nFill the gaps in your fundraising strategy\n\n\n\n\nJoin with purpose\, make the most of the interactions\, and build connections that lead your organisation to success. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP or Register today!\n\n\n\nThis event is free for Climate KIC Community members. Log into your account to access your RSVP. \n\n\n\nNot a member? Become a member and get free access to all Nexus sessions\, plus new connections\, visibility\, intelligence and opportunities to grow your organisation. \n\n\n\n\nLog in\n\n\n\nJoin the Community

SUMMARY:Choose Europe: From Theory to Practice
DESCRIPTION:What does it really take to choose Europe – and to stay? \n\n\n\nEurope wants to attract global talent\, but the reality of relocating\, integrating\, and building a future here is often far more complex than policy headlines suggest. \n\n\n\nThis online panel discussion brings together voices from policy\, entrepreneurship\, higher education\, and lived international experience to explore what choosing Europe looks like in practice. Together\, we will discuss what draws people to Europe\, what makes them stay\, what barriers they still face\, and what universities\, institutions\, and policymakers can do better to make Europe a more attractive and supportive destination for global talent. \n\n\n\nThe session will focus on practical perspectives rather than abstract theory\, with speakers bringing first-hand experience from across higher education\, startup ecosystems\, talent mobility\, and European policy. \n\n\n\nJoin us for an honest and forward-looking conversation on attracting\, supporting\, and retaining talent in Europe.

SUMMARY:From Policy to Bankability: Financing Climate-Positive Energy Projects for the Energy Union
DESCRIPTION:Achieving a clean\, secure and competitive Energy Union requires more than ambitious policy targets—it depends on turning climate-positive energy ideas into real\, scalable projects. \n\n\n\nAcross Europe\, many sustainable energy initiatives struggle to access finance. While they align with policy goals and climate objectives\, they often lack the structure\, clarity or visibility needed to attract investment. In this context\, improving the investment readiness of clean energy projects is essential to accelerate the energy transition\, mobilise capital\, and deliver real-world impact. \n\n\n\nThe event explores how climate-positive energy projects can become investment-ready and successfully move from concept to implementation. \n\n\n\nBringing together perspectives from policy\, finance and innovation\, the session will: \n\n\n\n\nhighlight key barriers to financing clean energy projects\n\n\n\nexplain what makes a project attractive to investors\n\n\n\nshowcase practical approaches to improving project readiness\n\n\n\nexplore how collaboration can unlock investment and scale solutions\n\n\n\n\nThis event is organized by Wegrant with the support of the CLIMINVEST project\, a Horizon Europe project focused on making climate investments more financially viable by strengthening project design and investment readiness. \n\n\n\nBen Honan\, Investment Lead at Climate KIC\, will be speaking at the event. Ben will share Climate KIC’s insights into moving climate-positive energy projects from concept to investment readiness\, and explain how collaboration across policy\, finance\, and innovation can unlock capital on a large scale.

SUMMARY:Investing in nature-positive futures: Innovation and place-based finance for bioeconomy and systems change
DESCRIPTION:The transition to a nature-positive economy cannot be driven by technological innovation and capital alone. It also depends on the social fabric that enables communities\, institutions and regions to innovate together. This workshop\, organised by Climate KIC and a partner event of the EU Green Week\, brings together three interdependent themes to explore how widely understood innovation becomes a catalyst for systemic change and mutually reinforcing transformation dynamics. \n\n\n\nFirst\, bioeconomy is a systemic opportunity and emerging industry with high potential to boost EU competitiveness. Moving beyond siloed sectors\, we examine how bio-based value chains can be redesigned at regional and landscape level\, integrating ecological regeneration with economic viability. Drawing on systems innovation experience as a form of social institution-building\, participants will explore how multi-actor coalitions shift the rules\, relationships and mental models that currently lock in unsustainable resource use\, forming the foundational layer for building new financial and innovation approaches. \n\n\n\nSecond\, Place-Based Finance Labs are an innovation instrument to deliver on topics such as the bioeconomy. We showcase how tailor-made financial mechanisms – co-designed with local governments\, communities and investors – unlock capital for nature-positive projects. These labs embody multilevel governance\, aligning EU policy frameworks with national programmes and sub-regional realities so that investments can flow where transformation is actually happening. \n\n\n\nThird\, innovation in its widest sense\, and as an expression of social capital. Through concrete impact stories\, we illustrate the full spectrum of innovation: technological\, business model\, social and policy – already benefiting nature\, people and the economy. Framed through multi-level perspectives on socio-technical transitions\, the stories demonstrate how place-based experiments\, supported by the right social networks and institutional conditions\, can challenge and reshape current systems\, thereby closing the loop between systemic opportunity (bioeconomy) and enabling mechanisms (finance and innovation)\, delivering real-world transformation. \n\n\n\nFormat & objectives\n\n\n\nThis workshop will bring together practitioners\, policymakers\, investors\, regional actors and innovators to explore how bioeconomy\, place-based finance and systems innovation can accelerate nature-positive transformation across Europe. \n\n\n\nThe event will also help inform our position to give feedback on Biotech Act I and as part of a submission to the upcoming call for evidence on Biotech Act II. Your contribution is fundamental to shaping policy in the right direction at European level. Join us and let your voice be heard! \n\n\n\nParticipants will:\n\n\n\n\nExplore bioeconomy as a systemic opportunity for EU competitiveness and regional regeneration.\n\n\n\nLearn how Place-Based Finance Labs can unlock capital for nature-positive projects.\n\n\n\nHear practical impact stories from technological\, social\, business model and policy innovation.\n\n\n\nIdentify governance\, investment and policy conditions needed to scale nature-positive innovation.\n\n\n\n\nThe event will be in a hybrid format\, allowing participation either in-person in our office in Bruxelles (details below) or online. \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\nDenyse Julien\, Climate KIC\, Ireland’s Deep Demonstration for the transition to a climate-neutral agri-food sector\n\n\n\nNessa Noronha\, University College Dublin\, TRANSFORM project\n\n\n\nPiotr Jurga\, Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation (IUNG-PIB)\, BIOEASTWIDE\n\n\n\nSeán Douglas\, BiOrbic\n\n\n\nDamien O’Reilly\, Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS)\n\n\n\nTamara Giltsoff\, Climate KIC\, Place Finance Lab initiative\n\n\n\nKirsten Dunlop\, CEO of Climate KIC\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n10:00 – 10:20 Opening and framing with Keynote from Dr. Kirsten Dunlop (CEO\, Climate KIC) \n\n\n\n10:20 – 10:45 Storytelling\, round one — How transformation begins \n\n\n\n10:45 – 11:30 Group discussion \n\n\n\n11:30 – 11:45 Storytelling\, round two — How transformation scales12:10 – 12:55 Group discussion \n\n\n\n12:55 – 13:00 Closing reflections and next steps \n\n\n\n13:00 Lunch & networking \n\n\n\nSeats are limited – Register below!

SUMMARY:What Lies Beyond Incubation and Acceleration?
DESCRIPTION:You have been through an accelerator. Or you run one. Or you fund them. And you may have asked yourself: is this really enough? \n\n\n\nFor climate adaptation entrepreneurs in emerging markets\, LDCs\, and especially small island developing states\, conventional incubation and acceleration programmes often fall short. They were not designed for businesses solving deeply local\, systemic challenges where the path to scale looks nothing like a venture-backed startup\, and where patient\, blended capital and long-term ecosystem support matter far more than a demo day. \n\n\n\nThis public webinar is for founders\, entrepreneurship support organisations\, and impact funders who want to explore what lies beyond for adaptation businesses – and who are willing to ask harder questions about how we do we really create the systemic conditions for attracting the investments they need. \n\n\n\nContributing speakers: \n\n\n\n\nLea Faucheux\, Climate Policy Initiative and the ClimateShot Investor Coalition: findings from CPI’s forthcoming landscape report on climate-focused agribusiness technical assistance providers in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America\n\n\n\nScott Walker\, Systemic Innovation: systemic barriers to enterprise scaling and implications for adaptation support\, exemplified by the updated African Scalecraft body of work\n\n\n\nTeam from Climate KIC and PlanAdapt: emerging findings from the two year evolution of the MSME Incubation & Acceleration Community of Practice of the Climate Adaptation Innovation & Learning project\n\n\n\n\nThe Climate Adaptation Innovation and Learning project is financed by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNIDO\, in partnership with Climate KIC\, the Global Adaptation and Resilience Investment Working Group\, and UNEP FI. We are developing a unique knowledge platform for climate adaptation–a hub to drive innovation and boost private sector engagement.

SUMMARY:Unlocking circular incentives: Hidden powers cities already have
DESCRIPTION:Cities and regions across Europe are attempting to implement circular economy strategies. Numerous businesses and organisations are offering solutions to support them. And yet progress is slow. \n\n\n\nWhy? Insights from CCRI communities of practice have highlighted the problem: using linear rules\, contracts and metrics to pursue circular outcomes. They’re potentially the right tools\, but cities and regions need to unlock and re-align them for circular change to really begin \n\n\n\nUnlocking Circular Incentives: The Hidden Power You Already Have is a hands-on online session about designing support measures for circular businesses that work in practice. The session includes real examples from Vienna and Hackney to spark discussion and exchange. \n\n\n\nIn just two hours\, you’ll learn to examine and diagnose needs\, processes and barriers so you can develop\, propose and implement practical adjustments to existing tools – without adding new funding streams. \n\n\n\nWho’s it for? \n\n\n\n\nAnyone already implementing circular strategies but facing challenges in delivery and uptake.\n\n\n\nCity and regional practitioners working on circular economy\, sustainability\, procurement\, waste management\, economic development\, or innovation.\n\n\n\nPublic officials involved in contracts\, budgeting\, programme design or setting KPIs.\n\n\n\nBusiness support organisations\, development agencies\, and circular hubs working with SMEs\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the CCRI communities of practice\n\n\n\nOver the past year\, CCRI (Circular Cities and Regions Initiative) communities of practice have brought practitioners together to openly share what works\, what doesn’t\, and where they get stuck. This CCRI online workshop series builds directly on these insights\, turning peer exchange into practical\, hands-on sessions designed to help you move from ambition to concrete actions – no matter where you are in your transition. \n\n\n\nThe online workshops are coordinated by Climate KIC\, ICLEI\, Circular Flanders\, and DG RTD

SUMMARY:Building your regulatory intelligence system (and why investors care)
DESCRIPTION:Regulation is part of building in cleantech\, but it doesn’t have to be a blocker. The challenge is knowing which rules actually matter for your business\, and which ones are just distraction.  \n\n\n\nJoin Cleantech Regulatory Advisor\, Cinzia Alberti\, for a practical founder-focused masterclass on navigating European regulation as you scale your business. This session focuses on how to identify your real regulatory touchpoints\, prioritise market entry based on regulatory complexity\, and talk about regulation in a way that builds investor confidence.  \n\n\n\nWe’ll cover why regulatory strategy matters from both an operational and investor perspective\, how to avoid common mistakes that can set teams back 6–12 months\, and what investors actually want to hear when regulation comes up. You’ll also learn when it makes sense to handle things internally\, when to bring in external support\, and what that support looks like in practice\, illustrated with a real-world EU multi‑market expansion example.  \n\n\n\nThe masterclass includes a 30‑minute presentation followed by a 15‑minute interactive Q&A\, with space to bring your own questions and challenges.

SUMMARY:Key insights and lessons for Nature-based Solutions and territorial planning in the EU
DESCRIPTION:What lessons can be learned from EU regions on design\, implementation\, governance and monitoring of nature-based solutions (NbS)? What are cross-regional insights on barriers and success factors for NbS? Which policy-relevant recommendations can be drawn? Join this practical workshop co-organised by Climate KIC as part of the ReAdapt project and get insights for your territorial planning. \n\n\n\nThe ReAdapt Sensemaking Workshop aims to address these questions. It brings together EU\, national\, and regional policymakers\, case study regions and ESPON representatives to distil shared lessons for stronger NbS implementation across Europe. These lessons will directly feed into the ReAdapt Policy Guidance Toolkit\, which offers policy guidelines throughout the NbS policy cycle (Problem identification & scoping\, Planning & design\, Financing\, Implementation and Monitoring). \n\n\n\nDuring this interactive workshop\, we will: \n\n\n\n\nGather insights for the ReAdapt Policy Guidance Toolkit\n\n\n\nPresent ReAdapt results so far: the Knowledge repository\, Climate risk maps\, cross-regional lessons and Policy Guidance Toolkit\n\n\n\nExplore cross-regional insights on barriers and success factors for NbS\n\n\n\nReflect on NbS design\, implementation\, governance\, financing\, and monitoring\n\n\n\nTranslate local experiences into policy-relevant recommendations\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout ReAdapt\n\n\n\nESPON ReAdapt (Re-Naturing Territorial Development for Climate Risk Adaptation I 2024-2026) aims to strengthen local and regional climate adaptation in the EU by integrating NbS into governance. Despite their effectiveness\, NbS face challenges such as fragmented knowledge\, limited data and lack of clear policy recommendations. ReAdapt addresses these issues by developing a knowledge repository\, spatial climate risk visualizations\, gathering best practices from eight case studies\, and developing a Policy Guidance Toolkit.
