SUMMARY:Key insights and lessons for Nature-based Solutions and territorial planning in the EU
DESCRIPTION:What lessons can be learned from EU regions on design\, implementation\, governance and monitoring of nature-based solutions (NbS)? What are cross-regional insights on barriers and success factors for NbS? Which policy-relevant recommendations can be drawn? Join this practical workshop co-organised by Climate KIC as part of the ReAdapt project and get insights for your territorial planning. \n\n\n\nThe ReAdapt Sensemaking Workshop aims to address these questions. It brings together EU\, national\, and regional policymakers\, case study regions and ESPON representatives to distil shared lessons for stronger NbS implementation across Europe. These lessons will directly feed into the ReAdapt Policy Guidance Toolkit\, which offers policy guidelines throughout the NbS policy cycle (Problem identification & scoping\, Planning & design\, Financing\, Implementation and Monitoring). \n\n\n\nDuring this interactive workshop\, we will: \n\n\n\n\nGather insights for the ReAdapt Policy Guidance Toolkit\n\n\n\nPresent ReAdapt results so far: the Knowledge repository\, Climate risk maps\, cross-regional lessons and Policy Guidance Toolkit\n\n\n\nExplore cross-regional insights on barriers and success factors for NbS\n\n\n\nReflect on NbS design\, implementation\, governance\, financing\, and monitoring\n\n\n\nTranslate local experiences into policy-relevant recommendations\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout ReAdapt\n\n\n\nESPON ReAdapt (Re-Naturing Territorial Development for Climate Risk Adaptation I 2024-2026) aims to strengthen local and regional climate adaptation in the EU by integrating NbS into governance. Despite their effectiveness\, NbS face challenges such as fragmented knowledge\, limited data and lack of clear policy recommendations. ReAdapt addresses these issues by developing a knowledge repository\, spatial climate risk visualizations\, gathering best practices from eight case studies\, and developing a Policy Guidance Toolkit.

SUMMARY:Transferring circularity to Eastern Europe: From strategy to real impact
DESCRIPTION:The conference “Transferring Circularity to Eastern Europe: From Strategy to Real Impact” will take place on 12 March 2026 in Ljubljana\, Slovenia\, in a hybrid format allowing both in-person and online participation. The event is organised by Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE\, a European Union funding programme that supports transnational cooperation across Central Europe. \n\n\n\nBringing together policymakers\, industry representatives\, innovation actors and project partners\, the conference will explore how circular economy principles can move from policy ambition to practical implementation across Eastern Europe. Participants will discuss how European cooperation\, digital tools and regional initiatives can help translate circular economy strategies into concrete action and strengthen more resource-efficient and resilient economic systems across the region. \n\n\n\nClimate KIC will contribute to the programme through a presentation by Marco Antonio Segovia Bifarini\, titled “Circularity in Eastern Europe: Strategic Outlook”\, which brings together policy experts\, regional actors and innovation leaders to discuss how circular economy strategies can be strengthened across the region. \n\n\n\nIn his contribution\, Marco will explore why circular economy in Eastern Europe requires a strategic rethink and what lessons can be drawn from the Deep Demonstration in Slovenia. This place-based initiative has brought together policymakers\, businesses and research organisations to experiment with new approaches to circular innovation\, helping to translate strategy into concrete action.

SUMMARY:Connect: Reflections on 2025 & Optimism for 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we reflect on one of the most challenging years\, share key takeaways from COP30\, and explore how our community can drive climate innovation and collaboration in 2026. \n\n\n\n2025 has been a year of extremes. We’ve seen climate events redefine what “crisis” means\, youth-led protests on social conditions\, a mix of setbacks and promising progress in climate targets and ambitions. Against this backdrop\, national delegations reconvened at COP30 in Belém\, Brazil in an extremely fragmented and uncertain political landscape. \n\n\n\nNow\, as the year draws to a close\, it’s time to gather as a Community and discuss: what are the main lessons from 2025? And how can we turn the tensions of recent years – marked by fear and impatience – into sources of resilience and creativity for a more constructive 2026? \n\n\n\nWe’ll kick off with an honest and empowering conversation between Christiana Figueres\, key negotiator behind the 2015 Paris agreement\, and Kirsten Dunlop\, CEO of Climate KIC and one of the leading voices in the systems innovation ecosystem. Together\, they’ll reflect on the global climate landscape and explore pathways for meaningful action. \n\n\n\nNext\, we’ll share highlights from our Community and initiatives for 2026\, setting the stage for collaborations in the upcoming year. \n\n\n\nWhat can you expect? \n\n\n\n\nInsights and takeaways from COP30 Brazil and the defining moments of 2025.\n\n\n\nPriorities\, anticipations and opportunities in 2026.\n\n\n\nA networking space to share commitments and lay the groundwork for collaborations.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\nChristiana Figueres\, Founding Partner of Global Optimism\, Chief Negotiator of the landmark Paris Agreement of 2015Christiana Figueres is an internationally recognized leader on climate action. In her position as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) she steered the global diplomatic effort that culminated in the 2015 Paris Agreement. Today she is the co-founder of Global Optimism\, co-host of the podcast Outrage & Optimism and co-author of “The Future We Choose: Surviving the Climate Crisis”.\n\n\n\nKirsten Dunlop\, CEO of Climate KICA creative\, energetic and inspirational leader\, Dr. Kirsten Dunlop brings to her role a deep conviction in our capacity to learn and evolve into a climate-resilient society\, and her over 30 years of experience catalyzing systemic transformations in a career spanning academia\, consulting\, banking\, and the insurance industry\, across three continents.. As an expert communicator and enthusiast\, she is a sought-after speaker on systems innovation\, financial systems change and societal transformation in the context of climate.

SUMMARY:Policy Lab: Efficient\, Circular and Affordable Housing
DESCRIPTION:In cities and communities across the EU\, delivering affordable housing is an urgent social\, economic\, and political imperative. Meeting this demand requires solutions that are both cost- effective and future-proof. \n\n\n\nLeveraging the co-benefits of circular\, energy-efficient\, and climate-resilient housing – such as lower energy and maintenance costs\, greater insurability\, and reduced climate risks – can make homes more affordable in the long run and open the door to innovative\, collaborative\, and systemic solutions. \n\n\n\nTo this end\, the EU Cities Mission is engaging European businesses and industry to translate Mission Cities’ Action and Investment Plans into specific\, quantified\, aggregate demand for green materials and technologies\, infrastructure\, manufacturing\, logistics\, interoperable digital solutions\, and green business models. In this way\, we can accelerate the formation of European lead markets and enhance competitiveness through resilience to climate and economic shocks. \n\n\n\nEmploying an innovative policy impact lab approach\, in this session Climate KIC\, in partnership with the Huge Thing and IRMIR (Institute for the Development of Cities and Regions) will gather key representatives of the European built environment ecosystem – policy makers\, industry\, innovators\, local governments\, subject experts – to start addressing housing related (esp. in terms of renovation or new construction) issues in a practice-oriented way. These representatives will work on matching challenges with solutions\, identifying gaps\, and creating space for participants to acknowledge both opportunities and limitations\, to jointly explore ways and projects for moving forward. \n\n\n\n\n[Business models] In what areas are circularity and efficiency co-benefits of affordability? How can this potential be maximized?\n\n\n\n[Innovations] How can alternative and innovative approaches (like zero-emissions building sites\, offsite construction\, energy management innovations etc.)\, be integrated affordably?\n\n\n\n[Costs] What are the key cost drivers constraining the potential of building renovation / new constructions being delivered in affordable and sustainable ways\, and how can they be addressed?\n\n\n\n[Costs] To what extent can innovative financial instruments (e.g. guarantees\, subordinated debt\, pay-as-you-save models etc.) balance short-term feasibility with long-term sustainability?\n\n\n\n[Waste] In what ways might construction and demolition waste be transformed from a cost burden into a reliable source of secondary materials?\n\n\n\n[Waste] How might circular and low-carbon materials\, e.g. low-clinker cement or second-hand steel\, be more broadly adopted?\n\n\n\n[Regulation] What innovations in the EU’s policies (shaping and implementation) or standards can ease affordability concerns without sacrificing sustainability?\n\n\n\n[Data] How can data (governance and use)\, digitization and AI be harnessed to drive sustainability and affordability?\n\n\n\n[Skills] What are the key skills and capacities missing amongst both workers and companies. What kinds of partnerships or models are needed to bridge the gap swiftly – to be able to reap the competitiveness benefits from transforming and becoming innovative? \n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n13:00 – 13:30 Registration & Networking \n\n\n\n13:30 – 14:15 \n\n\n\nWelcome Remarks by the Organisers \n\n\n\n\nKatarzyna Bałucka-Dębska\, Head of Policy and EU Affairs\, Climate KIC\n\n\n\nMaryla Wojcieszek\, Vice-President and Co-Owner\, Huge Thing\n\n\n\n\nOpening Remarks: \n\n\n\n\nData applied at neighbourhood level: The case of the Basque Region’s Building PassportAndoni Hidalgo\, Climate KIC / Basque Urban Agenda\, International Affairs AdvisorAnder Bilbao Figuero\, Ciclica\n\n\n\nOslo case – Public procurement leveraging lead markets creationPrzemysław Derwich & Paweł Kaczkan\, Climate KIC\n\n\n\nPolish case study\n\n\n\nViews from the marketRepresentatives from ROBYG SA & Vantage SA\n\n\n\n\n14:15 – 15:45 Lab-Style Discussions and Q&A \n\n\n\nParticipants will join lab-style\, solution-focused discussions designed to move beyond sequential remarks and problem definition\, encouraging practical exchange and co-creation of solutions. SUMMARY:CoLab: Advancing green public-private partnerships
DESCRIPTION:Join our Community CoLab in Warsaw to design new models of public-private partnerships\, and identify business opportunities and coalitions across entrepreneurship\, education and research to push the climate innovation agenda \n\n\n\nTo reach the EU’s 2030 climate targets\, the EIB estimates we must allocate roughly 8% of our GDP. Unfortunately\, we are only at 5% GDP. We know that neither public nor private sector alone can solve the climate crisis\, they must work together. \n\n\n\nPublic-private partnerships are vital to turn ambitious green commitments of cities\, national governments and the EU into reality. By connecting urgent public demand with innovative business solutions and the latest research\, these collaborations unlock new markets and drive adaptation at the pace and scale our communities urgently need. \n\n\n\nClimate KIC invites you to join us in Warsaw\, Poland on Wednesday 22 October for an impactful Community Collaboration Laboratory (CoLab) focused on Advancing green public-private partnerships\, in collaboration with the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development and the University of Warsaw. We are inviting key stakeholders from public and private sectors\, national\, regional and local policymakers\, researchers\, industries\, and innovative entrepreneurs to join us. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we’ll design new models of partnerships\, understand the demand of public stakeholders\, reflect on possible solutions at the nexus of research and business\, and identify opportunities to push the climate innovation agenda in Poland and beyond. \n\n\n\nThis CoLab is just the beginning. Over the coming three years\, Climate KIC Community\, will convene public and private stakeholders\, researchers and innovators to ignite a new movement to explore systemic climate solutions and collaborate to scale and pace their implementation.  \n\n\n\nJoin us if you’re ready to future-proof your organisation and collaborate with like-minded organisations and innovators.  \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n14.30 – 15.00: Registration & coffee \n\n\n\n15.00 – 15.10: Welcome to the CoLabwith Magnus Harrison\, Community Relations and Partnership Manager\, Climate KIC   \n\n\n\n15.10 – 15.50: Fire side talk: Accelerating the green transition and business opportunities through public-private partnerships.Moderated by: Katarzyna Balucka-Debska\, Policy & EU Affairs Orchestrator\, Climate KIC. \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\n\nMichal Piwowarczyk\, Deputy Director\, Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy\n\n\n\nKrzysztof Gulda\, President\, Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP)\n\n\n\nAnna Brussa\, Industry Value Chains Director\, Climate KIC. \n\n\n\n\n15.50 – 16.00: Session introduction \n\n\n\n16.00 – 16.45: Round table discussions   \n\n\n\n\nUnlocking private and public capitalLed by Przemek Derwich\, EU Funding Specialist\, Climate KIC\n\n\n\nBuilding and scaling competitive industriesLed by Anna Brussa\, Industry Value Chains Director\, Climate KIC.\n\n\n\nBridging innovation gapsLed by Magnus Harrison\, Community Relations and Partnership Manager\, Climate KIC  \n\n\n\n\n16.45 – 17.15: Plenary: Presentation of the round table discussionsModerated by Aleksandra Goldys\, Designer & Producer\, Industry Value Chains\, Climate KIC  \n\n\n\n17.15 – 18.00: Networking reception  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout Climate KIC Community CoLabs\n\n\n\nClimate KIC is hosting four Collaboration Laboratories (CoLabs) in the fall of 2025.  At our CoLabs\, we engage public and private stakeholders across value chains in our effort to connect climate demand with innovative business solutions. SUMMARY:Boosting regional competitiveness through entrepreneurship\, innovation and circularity
DESCRIPTION:In many parts of Europe\, especially rural and remote areas\, people still face a tough choice: stay\, or leave to seek opportunity elsewhere. But what if the right to stay wasn’t just about holding on but about unlocking the full potential of every place? How can Europe’s rural communities and regions become more competitive? \n\n\n\nThis session explores multi-level systemic approaches to regional transformation\, including place-based design practices\, \n\n\n\nIt will be moderated by Federico Esu\, Entrepreneurship Programme Lead at Climate KIC\, and will feature impulse talks from the Systems Transformation Hub\, the Joint Research Centre’s Startup Village Forum initiative and the TA2030 Circular Rural Regions pilot action.  \n\n\n\nIt will be followed by an interactive discussion\, inviting the audience to share experiences and insights on rural policy\, entrepreneurship and circular economy practices\, showcasing how systems thinking and local innovation can align to boost resilience and competitiveness on the ground. \n\n\n\nThe session is part of the European Week of Regions and Cities. It is the biggest annual Brussels-based event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs\, implement European Union Cohesion policy\, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance. The European Week of Regions and Cities is organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy and the European Committee of the Regions.

SUMMARY:CoLab: Community-led housing and sustainable transitions
DESCRIPTION:European capitals are enduring a severe housing crisis that affects its inhabitants and climate. The EAA estimates that 75% Europeans lives in cities – increasing to 80% by 2050. Now\, 75% of those inhabitants lives in build environment that is energy inefficient. Furthermore\, rentals are soaring: OECD estimates that\, over the last decade\, the average rent has doubled in many European countries including Spain.   \n\n\n\nHowever\, in recent years\, cities like Barcelona have gained international momentum for an emerging model of public\, community-led partnerships. \n\n\n\nFor this Collaboration Lab (CoLab) on Friday 10 October and in partnership with holon\, we will explore such model by visiting two internationally awarded projects in Barcelona: La Borda and BLOC4. We’ll also discuss with key players of the local ecosystem how this transformation is happening in practice\, from green construction to finance and policies that promote the emergence of such locally led innovations.  \n\n\n\nThis CoLab is just the beginning.
