SUMMARY:Transferring circularity to Eastern Europe: From strategy to real impact
DESCRIPTION:The conference “Transferring Circularity to Eastern Europe: From Strategy to Real Impact” will take place on 12 March 2026 in Ljubljana\, Slovenia\, in a hybrid format allowing both in-person and online participation. The event is organised by Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE\, a European Union funding programme that supports transnational cooperation across Central Europe. \n\n\n\nBringing together policymakers\, industry representatives\, innovation actors and project partners\, the conference will explore how circular economy principles can move from policy ambition to practical implementation across Eastern Europe. Participants will discuss how European cooperation\, digital tools and regional initiatives can help translate circular economy strategies into concrete action and strengthen more resource-efficient and resilient economic systems across the region. \n\n\n\nClimate KIC will contribute to the programme through a presentation by Marco Antonio Segovia Bifarini\, titled “Circularity in Eastern Europe: Strategic Outlook”\, which brings together policy experts\, regional actors and innovation leaders to discuss how circular economy strategies can be strengthened across the region. \n\n\n\nIn his contribution\, Marco will explore why circular economy in Eastern Europe requires a strategic rethink and what lessons can be drawn from the Deep Demonstration in Slovenia. This place-based initiative has brought together policymakers\, businesses and research organisations to experiment with new approaches to circular innovation\, helping to translate strategy into concrete action.

SUMMARY:SILP Learning Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Systems Innovation Learning Partnership\, a collaboration between the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and Climate KIC\, is back with a new edition of the Learning Festival. \n\n\n\nThe Learning Festival is an invitation to pause\, learn together and make sense of reality without collapsing into urgency\, oversimplification or performance. \n\n\n\nAcross three days\, we’ll explore how narratives\, funding practices and collective learning shape what becomes possible in complex systems. To help us process reality in all it’s heaviness\, we’re inviting a comedian to accompany us in the festival to remind us that humour can be the most honest form of being with such harsh realities. \n\n\n\nDay 1: Climate narratives in action: Attention\, trust\, and imagining alternative futures\n\n\n\nTuesday 10th March 10-12.30 CET \n\n\n\nWith backtracking climate commitments\, shrinking budgets and shifting geopolitical tensions\, it can feel so difficult to reach the people needed for meaningful\, global climate action. \n\n\n\nYet climate narratives continue to travel through mainstream routes like Hollywood and through quieter\, less obvious pathways like choirs\, communities and culture. \n\n\n\nDay 1 invites you into a kaleidoscopic exploration of climate narratives: where they come from\, how they shape attention and trust\, and how they open (or close) our ability to imagine alternative futures. \n\n\n\nWith conversation partners from diverse spaces\, we’ll explore how different forms of storytelling and inherited narratives are being used to: \n\n\n\n\nCapture attention\n\n\n\nShape attitudes and behaviour\n\n\n\nIllustrate possible futures\n\n\n\nCreate momentum for climate action\n\n\n\n\nThis is a space to pause the churn of urgency\, question what stories are doing in the world\, and reflect on the responsibility we carry in the narratives we amplify. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\nDay 2: In-between Spaces: Intermediaries rethinking funding practices\n\n\n\nWednesday 11th March 10-12.30 CETIf you’re holding relationships that don’t neatly align\, translating between languages that don’t quite match\, expected to deliver certainty in situations defined by uncertainty. Accountable to multiple worlds of funders\, communities\, institutions all with different incentives\, timelines\, and definitions of success. \n\n\n\nThis is the work of being in-between. \n\n\n\nDay 2 marks the launch of the Rethinking Intermediaries Series report — a learning paper emerging from shared inquiry with intermediary funders and ecosystem support organisations navigating this in-between space. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we’ll explore live examples of experimental practice spaces in funding and relational work\, opening honest conversations about: \n\n\n\n\nThe challenges of working across worlds\n\n\n\nWhat experimentation looks like in practice\n\n\n\nHow intermediaries are finding new ways to work with complexity\n\n\n\n\nThis day is designed as a learning space… not to resolve tension but to understand it more deeply. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\nDay 3: Systems Innovation Learning Horizons (Closed Group)\n\n\n\nThursday 12th March 10.00-13.00 CET \n\n\n\nThe 2026 SILP Learning Festival will close the current lifecycle of the SILP programme. \n\n\n\nDay 3 will see an invitation-only gathering of some of Climate KIC’s closest partners and collaborators\, and some new friends\, come together in an intentional space to pause and reflect on what we are collectively learning about working in\, with\, and on complex systems. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we will: \n\n\n\n\nReflect on emerging insights from systems innovation practice\n\n\n\nShare live learning and challenges from our own work\n\n\n\nExplore the evolving landscape of systems innovation\n\n\n\nSurface collective needs and opportunities for future learning\n\n\n\n\nThis is a space for honest sense-making\, shared reflection and imagining what learning horizons might come next. \n\n\n\nIf you would like to be a part of this closed group\, please email jessamy.hardie@climate-kic.org (and cc will@orbitallearning.io)

SUMMARY:The power of transdisciplinarity for innovation-led impact
DESCRIPTION:Transdisciplinary approaches that bridge research domains play a key role in enhancing the impact of research outcomes.  \n\n\n\nFor example\, Social Sciences\, and Humanities (SSH) fields are sometimes overlooked in innovation and technology transfer while their contribution is increasingly recognised. Insights on human behaviour\, culture\, and social change can shape ideas into innovations that are more inclusive\, sustainable\, and impactful.  \n\n\n\nResearchers engaged in co-creation for innovation-led impact use new methods and practices effective for valorisation. They can connect research results from Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, and Mathematics (STEM) fields with people’s lives and values\, promote multistakeholder engagement\, and develop innovative solutions that respond to societal needs. \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\nThe panel is moderated by Maria Cristina Russo\, Deputy Director-General for Innovation\, Prosperity and International Cooperation\, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation\, European Commission\, discussing with the following speakers:  \n\n\n\n\nEsther De Smet\, Senior Policy Advisor at Central Research Department of Ghent University\n\n\n\nKarim Selouane\, Deputy Director of European and international affairs at CEREMA\n\n\n\nBalzhan Orazbayeva\, Manager Strategic Initiatives at University Industry Innovation Network (UIIN)

SUMMARY:Connect: Reflections on 2025 & Optimism for 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we reflect on one of the most challenging years\, share key takeaways from COP30\, and explore how our community can drive climate innovation and collaboration in 2026. \n\n\n\n2025 has been a year of extremes. We’ve seen climate events redefine what “crisis” means\, youth-led protests on social conditions\, a mix of setbacks and promising progress in climate targets and ambitions. Against this backdrop\, national delegations reconvened at COP30 in Belém\, Brazil in an extremely fragmented and uncertain political landscape. \n\n\n\nNow\, as the year draws to a close\, it’s time to gather as a Community and discuss: what are the main lessons from 2025? And how can we turn the tensions of recent years – marked by fear and impatience – into sources of resilience and creativity for a more constructive 2026? \n\n\n\nWe’ll kick off with an honest and empowering conversation between Christiana Figueres\, key negotiator behind the 2015 Paris agreement\, and Kirsten Dunlop\, CEO of Climate KIC and one of the leading voices in the systems innovation ecosystem. Together\, they’ll reflect on the global climate landscape and explore pathways for meaningful action. \n\n\n\nNext\, we’ll share highlights from our Community and initiatives for 2026\, setting the stage for collaborations in the upcoming year. \n\n\n\nWhat can you expect? \n\n\n\n\nInsights and takeaways from COP30 Brazil and the defining moments of 2025.\n\n\n\nPriorities\, anticipations and opportunities in 2026.\n\n\n\nA networking space to share commitments and lay the groundwork for collaborations.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\nChristiana Figueres\, Founding Partner of Global Optimism\, Chief Negotiator of the landmark Paris Agreement of 2015Christiana Figueres is an internationally recognized leader on climate action. In her position as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) she steered the global diplomatic effort that culminated in the 2015 Paris Agreement. Today she is the co-founder of Global Optimism\, co-host of the podcast Outrage & Optimism and co-author of “The Future We Choose: Surviving the Climate Crisis”.\n\n\n\nKirsten Dunlop\, CEO of Climate KICA creative\, energetic and inspirational leader\, Dr. Kirsten Dunlop brings to her role a deep conviction in our capacity to learn and evolve into a climate-resilient society\, and her over 30 years of experience catalyzing systemic transformations in a career spanning academia\, consulting\, banking\, and the insurance industry\, across three continents.. As an expert communicator and enthusiast\, she is a sought-after speaker on systems innovation\, financial systems change and societal transformation in the context of climate.

SUMMARY:Policy Lab: Efficient\, Circular and Affordable Housing
DESCRIPTION:In cities and communities across the EU\, delivering affordable housing is an urgent social\, economic\, and political imperative. Meeting this demand requires solutions that are both cost- effective and future-proof. \n\n\n\nLeveraging the co-benefits of circular\, energy-efficient\, and climate-resilient housing – such as lower energy and maintenance costs\, greater insurability\, and reduced climate risks – can make homes more affordable in the long run and open the door to innovative\, collaborative\, and systemic solutions. \n\n\n\nTo this end\, the EU Cities Mission is engaging European businesses and industry to translate Mission Cities’ Action and Investment Plans into specific\, quantified\, aggregate demand for green materials and technologies\, infrastructure\, manufacturing\, logistics\, interoperable digital solutions\, and green business models. In this way\, we can accelerate the formation of European lead markets and enhance competitiveness through resilience to climate and economic shocks. \n\n\n\nEmploying an innovative policy impact lab approach\, in this session Climate KIC\, in partnership with the Huge Thing and IRMIR (Institute for the Development of Cities and Regions) will gather key representatives of the European built environment ecosystem – policy makers\, industry\, innovators\, local governments\, subject experts – to start addressing housing related (esp. in terms of renovation or new construction) issues in a practice-oriented way. These representatives will work on matching challenges with solutions\, identifying gaps\, and creating space for participants to acknowledge both opportunities and limitations\, to jointly explore ways and projects for moving forward. \n\n\n\n\n[Business models] In what areas are circularity and efficiency co-benefits of affordability? How can this potential be maximized?\n\n\n\n[Innovations] How can alternative and innovative approaches (like zero-emissions building sites\, offsite construction\, energy management innovations etc.)\, be integrated affordably?\n\n\n\n[Costs] What are the key cost drivers constraining the potential of building renovation / new constructions being delivered in affordable and sustainable ways\, and how can they be addressed?\n\n\n\n[Costs] To what extent can innovative financial instruments (e.g. guarantees\, subordinated debt\, pay-as-you-save models etc.) balance short-term feasibility with long-term sustainability?\n\n\n\n[Waste] In what ways might construction and demolition waste be transformed from a cost burden into a reliable source of secondary materials?\n\n\n\n[Waste] How might circular and low-carbon materials\, e.g. low-clinker cement or second-hand steel\, be more broadly adopted?\n\n\n\n[Regulation] What innovations in the EU’s policies (shaping and implementation) or standards can ease affordability concerns without sacrificing sustainability?\n\n\n\n[Data] How can data (governance and use)\, digitization and AI be harnessed to drive sustainability and affordability?\n\n\n\n[Skills] What are the key skills and capacities missing amongst both workers and companies. What kinds of partnerships or models are needed to bridge the gap swiftly – to be able to reap the competitiveness benefits from transforming and becoming innovative? \n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n13:00 – 13:30 Registration & Networking \n\n\n\n13:30 – 14:15 \n\n\n\nWelcome Remarks by the Organisers \n\n\n\n\nKatarzyna Bałucka-Dębska\, Head of Policy and EU Affairs\, Climate KIC\n\n\n\nMaryla Wojcieszek\, Vice-President and Co-Owner\, Huge Thing\n\n\n\n\nOpening Remarks: \n\n\n\n\nData applied at neighbourhood level: The case of the Basque Region’s Building PassportAndoni Hidalgo\, Climate KIC / Basque Urban Agenda\, International Affairs AdvisorAnder Bilbao Figuero\, Ciclica\n\n\n\nOslo case – Public procurement leveraging lead markets creationPrzemysław Derwich & Paweł Kaczkan\, Climate KIC\n\n\n\nPolish case study\n\n\n\nViews from the marketRepresentatives from ROBYG SA & Vantage SA\n\n\n\n\n14:15 – 15:45 Lab-Style Discussions and Q&A \n\n\n\nParticipants will join lab-style\, solution-focused discussions designed to move beyond sequential remarks and problem definition\, encouraging practical exchange and co-creation of solutions. Discussion themes include: \n\n\n\n\nLeveraging public procurement and finance\n\n\n\nEnabling circular solutions\n\n\n\nUsing data and digital tools\n\n\n\nImproving energy efficiency\n\n\n\nBuilding skills and capacity of workers and companies\n\n\n\n\n15:45 – 16:00 Roundtable Summaries and Closing Remarks \n\n\n\n16:00 – 17:30 Networking

SUMMARY:Deep Dive: Unlocking green public-private partnerships. A case by case exploration
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this year’s last Deep Dive on green Public-Private Partnerships. We will explore how businesses can work with the public sector\, highlighting experiences\, learnings\, and recommendations to go forward.\n\n\n\nIt is clear that neither public nor private sector alone can solve the climate crisis; they must work together. For this purpose\, there is no way around Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) if we aim to meet our and Europe’s 2030 climate targets. \n\n\n\nAs discussed with our members during the last CoLab in Warsaw\, green and digital transformation is an area for development and business opportunities within the PPP framework\, not only on a national level but also on regional and city level. A clear recommendation for businesses that want to implement these partnerships is to be agile and able to adapt to the evolving priorities of the public sector – just like any other consumer. \n\n\n\nHow can you align your business priorities with those of the public sector to elevate your products and services? How can you build scalable\, effective Public-Private Partnerships with governmental stakeholders? \n\n\n\nJoin us on Tuesday 2 December for our final Deep Dive of the year when you will hear from a group of public and private stakeholders to further our understanding of and ways of elevating Public-Private Partnerships. \n\n\n\nThis Deep Dive will build on the legacy and insights from the Community CoLab in Warsaw\, where we gathered various stakeholders from the Polish public and private sectors to discuss PPP\, recommendations\, and actionable next steps.   \n\n\n\nWhat you’ll learn\n\n\n\nThrough guided dialogues\, peer-to-peer exchanges\, real-world case studies and more\, you will:   \n\n\n\n\nLearn from businesses and public stakeholders working with PPP. \n\n\n\nGain insights into how to work with PPP and why it’s important to you. \n\n\n\nNetwork with other stakeholders interested in PPP as you are.   \n\n\n\n\nThis is not merely a learning event. Expect practical methods and exercises to provide insights into your organisation.   \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDimitri Ionesco\, Founder of LightMirrorLightMirror develops reflective panels that bring sunlight into hospitals and care homes\, reducing the need for artificial lighting and heating. By installing these reflective panels at the edges of roofs\, natural light can be redirected into other buildings\, making it a controllable asset that cuts costs and improves the overall well-being of patients and residents.\n\n\n\nPaula McGinnel\, Investment & Industry Specialist\, Climate KICPaula is an Investment & Industry Specialist at Climate-KIC\, where she primarily programme-manages the City-Industry Dialogue initiative\, supporting EU Cities to collaborate with industry and finance on large-scale decarbonisation. SUMMARY:EIT Innovation Awards
DESCRIPTION:Innovation is Europe’s most renewable resource – yet still underused. Talent is everywhere\, but opportunities are not always within reach. The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) changes this by linking ideas with impact\, talent with markets\, and emerging regions with established hubs.  \n\n\n\nThe EIT Innovation Awards 2025 showcase this mission with three flagship events coming together under one banner for the first time: \n\n\n\n\nThe EIT Jumpstarter Grand Finale: after a seven-month pre-acceleration programme\, early-stage innovators from moderate and emerging regions compete for prizes of up to EUR 10 000 across seven categories: Energy\, Food\, Health\, New European Bauhaus\, Raw Materials\, Urban Mobility\, and Rebuild Ukraine. Selection also takes place for EIT Jumpstarter Next\, a track for alumni advancing validated ideas to market entry\n\n\n\n\n\nThe EIT Awards: celebrating excellence across four categories: \n\n\n\n\n\nMost Promising EIT Changemaker: a leader whose activities create significant social impact.\n\n\n\nBest Innovation Team: a diverse group pioneering a transformative product or service.\n\n\n\nMost Promising Venture: a startup within the EIT Community showing strong growth potential.\n\n\n\nPublic Award: the community’s favourite innovation\, chosen by public vote. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe EIT Red Kalyna Celebrations: recognising Ukrainian women entrepreneurs\, educators\, researchers\, and mentors who drive innovation and positive change\, honouring groundbreaking products\, solutions\, and businesses that embody resilience and determination\n\n\n\n\nWhy It Matters \n\n\n\nTogether\, these initiatives reflect the full circle of European innovation: no region left behind\, every innovator recognised\, no good idea unsupported. By connecting countries\, sectors\, and stages of development\, the EIT acts as Europe’s bridge – from East to West\, North to South\, from the earliest pitch to global breakthrough.  \n\n\n\nSave the date to discover the winners on 25 November.

SUMMARY:Future-ready textiles: Activate desirable futures
DESCRIPTION:Climate regulation\, circular business models\, labour shifts\, and rapid technological disruption are reshaping the textile industry. To thrive\, organisations need more than compliance: they need foresight\, practical tools\, and cross-sector collaboration. \n\n\n\nTake compostable packaging: a promising innovation\, but its impact is limited without proper disposal systems or local infrastructure. Imagine if it had been co-created with municipalities\, behaviour experts\, suppliers\, and brands — designed for real system change and grounded in economic and social viability. That’s the kind of thinking this programme fosters. \n\n\n\nThis structured\, three-part online journey will guide you from understanding system-wide industry drivers\, to exploring future business scenarios\, to designing actionable innovation portfolios. By completing all three modules\, you will develop a project idea grounded in tangible scenarios\, insights from leading industry players\, and proven case studies\, future-proofing your organisation while creating lasting value for your stakeholders. \n\n\n\nModule 3: Activate desirable futures\n\n\n\nShift from foresight to action. Translate desirable scenarios into innovation portfolios that balance incremental\, adjacent and transformative initiatives. Design systemic interventions across product\, process\, business model\, policy and culture.  \n\n\n\nOutcome: A portfolio of actionable innovations co-developed with industry leaders that shows how to turn a scenario into a viable cross-industry project and create tangible impact. Participants leave with practical tools for networking\, engaging and securing collaboration.
