SUMMARY:Investing in nature-positive futures: Innovation and place-based finance for bioeconomy and systems change
DESCRIPTION:The transition to a nature-positive economy cannot be driven by technological innovation and capital alone. It also depends on the social fabric that enables communities\, institutions and regions to innovate together. This workshop\, organised by Climate KIC and a partner event of the EU Green Week\, brings together three interdependent themes to explore how widely understood innovation becomes a catalyst for systemic change and mutually reinforcing transformation dynamics. \n\n\n\nFirst\, bioeconomy is a systemic opportunity and emerging industry with high potential to boost EU competitiveness. Moving beyond siloed sectors\, we examine how bio-based value chains can be redesigned at regional and landscape level\, integrating ecological regeneration with economic viability. Drawing on systems innovation experience as a form of social institution-building\, participants will explore how multi-actor coalitions shift the rules\, relationships and mental models that currently lock in unsustainable resource use\, forming the foundational layer for building new financial and innovation approaches. \n\n\n\nSecond\, Place-Based Finance Labs are an innovation instrument to deliver on topics such as the bioeconomy. We showcase how tailor-made financial mechanisms – co-designed with local governments\, communities and investors – unlock capital for nature-positive projects. These labs embody multilevel governance\, aligning EU policy frameworks with national programmes and sub-regional realities so that investments can flow where transformation is actually happening. \n\n\n\nThird\, innovation in its widest sense\, and as an expression of social capital. Through concrete impact stories\, we illustrate the full spectrum of innovation: technological\, business model\, social and policy – already benefiting nature\, people and the economy. Framed through multi-level perspectives on socio-technical transitions\, the stories demonstrate how place-based experiments\, supported by the right social networks and institutional conditions\, can challenge and reshape current systems\, thereby closing the loop between systemic opportunity (bioeconomy) and enabling mechanisms (finance and innovation)\, delivering real-world transformation. \n\n\n\nFormat & objectives\n\n\n\nThis workshop will bring together practitioners\, policymakers\, investors\, regional actors and innovators to explore how bioeconomy\, place-based finance and systems innovation can accelerate nature-positive transformation across Europe. \n\n\n\nThe event will also help inform our position to give feedback on Biotech Act I and as part of a submission to the upcoming call for evidence on Biotech Act II. Your contribution is fundamental to shaping policy in the right direction at European level. Join us and let your voice be heard! \n\n\n\nParticipants will:\n\n\n\n\nExplore bioeconomy as a systemic opportunity for EU competitiveness and regional regeneration.\n\n\n\nLearn how Place-Based Finance Labs can unlock capital for nature-positive projects.\n\n\n\nHear practical impact stories from technological\, social\, business model and policy innovation.\n\n\n\nIdentify governance\, investment and policy conditions needed to scale nature-positive innovation.\n\n\n\n\nThe event will be in a hybrid format\, allowing participation either in-person in our office in Bruxelles (details below) or online. \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\nDenyse Julien\, Climate KIC\, Ireland’s Deep Demonstration for the transition to a climate-neutral agri-food sector\n\n\n\nNessa Noronha\, University College Dublin\, TRANSFORM project\n\n\n\nPiotr Jurga\, Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation (IUNG-PIB)\, BIOEASTWIDE\n\n\n\nSeán Douglas\, BiOrbic\n\n\n\nDamien O’Reilly\, Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS)\n\n\n\nTamara Giltsoff\, Climate KIC\, Place Finance Lab initiative\n\n\n\nKirsten Dunlop\, CEO of Climate KIC\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n10:00 – 10:20 Opening and framing with Keynote from Dr. Kirsten Dunlop (CEO\, Climate KIC) \n\n\n\n10:20 – 10:45 Storytelling\, round one — How transformation begins \n\n\n\n10:45 – 11:30 Group discussion \n\n\n\n11:30 – 11:45 Storytelling\, round two — How transformation scales12:10 – 12:55 Group discussion \n\n\n\n12:55 – 13:00 Closing reflections and next steps \n\n\n\n13:00 Lunch & networking \n\n\n\nSeats are limited – Register below!

SUMMARY:What Lies Beyond Incubation and Acceleration?
DESCRIPTION:You have been through an accelerator. Or you run one. Or you fund them. And you may have asked yourself: is this really enough? \n\n\n\nFor climate adaptation entrepreneurs in emerging markets\, LDCs\, and especially small island developing states\, conventional incubation and acceleration programmes often fall short. They were not designed for businesses solving deeply local\, systemic challenges where the path to scale looks nothing like a venture-backed startup\, and where patient\, blended capital and long-term ecosystem support matter far more than a demo day. \n\n\n\nThis public webinar is for founders\, entrepreneurship support organisations\, and impact funders who want to explore what lies beyond for adaptation businesses – and who are willing to ask harder questions about how we do we really create the systemic conditions for attracting the investments they need. \n\n\n\nContributing speakers: \n\n\n\n\nLea Faucheux\, Climate Policy Initiative and the ClimateShot Investor Coalition: findings from CPI’s forthcoming landscape report on climate-focused agribusiness technical assistance providers in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America\n\n\n\nScott Walker\, Systemic Innovation: systemic barriers to enterprise scaling and implications for adaptation support\, exemplified by the updated African Scalecraft body of work\n\n\n\nTeam from Climate KIC and PlanAdapt: emerging findings from the two year evolution of the MSME Incubation & Acceleration Community of Practice of the Climate Adaptation Innovation & Learning project\n\n\n\n\nThe Climate Adaptation Innovation and Learning project is financed by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNIDO\, in partnership with Climate KIC\, the Global Adaptation and Resilience Investment Working Group\, and UNEP FI. We are developing a unique knowledge platform for climate adaptation–a hub to drive innovation and boost private sector engagement.

SUMMARY:How to Evolve - Global book tour
DESCRIPTION:What if the strategies we rely on to tackle complex problems are actually making things worse? \n\n\n\nThat’s the central provocation of ‘How to Evolve’\, the new book by systems thinker and author Zaid Hassan. His argument is direct: in complex systems\, strategy-as-planning is not just ineffective – it’s a form of malpractice. Millions spent on workshops that produce documents\, not real change\, is a pattern too many of us recognise. \n\n\n\nThis is territory we know well. At Climate KIC\, we work in what we call the “messy middle” — the uncertain\, often unpredictable space between climate ambition and climate reality. We don’t believe you can plan your way through that space. You have to practice your way through it. Zaid’s work puts that conviction into sharp\, rigorous focus. We think it’s essential reading for anyone working in climate innovation\, systems change\, or public and private sector transformation. \n\n\n\nClimate KIC and Ten in Ten are proud to host the Copenhagen dates of Zaid’s global book tour. Across two days at BLOXHUB (Bryghuspladsen 8) there are three ways to engage with his work — from a full-day hands-on workshop to a public evening lecture and an intimate author dinner. \n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\nStrategy & Anti-Strategy WorkshopMonday 11 May | 09:30–17:30 CETA full-day\, hands-on workshop with Zaid Hassan introducing participants to the practice of systemic action. Limited to 30 seats.DKK 3\,189.99 (standard) / DKK 1\,589.99 (student) \n\n\n\nHow to Evolve — Public LectureTuesday 12 May | 18:30–20:00 CETAn in-depth public talk and Q&A with Zaid Hassan on the core ideas from his new book. Open to all.DKK 189.99 (standard) / DKK 89.99 (student) \n\n\n\nHow to Evolve — Author DinnerTuesday 12 May | 20:30 CETA small\, intimate dinner where Zaid shares behind-the-scenes stories from the book and the tour. Limited to 30 seats.DKK 789.99 (standard) / DKK 469.99 (student) \n\n\n\nA 3-Event Bundle — covering all three events plus a book pack (hardback\, notebook\, T-shirt\, and stickers) — is also available at DKK 3\,189.99 (standard) / DKK 1\,589.99 (student). \n\n\n\n\n\nCan’t make Copenhagen? SUMMARY:SILP Learning Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Systems Innovation Learning Partnership\, a collaboration between the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and Climate KIC\, is back with a new edition of the Learning Festival. \n\n\n\nThe Learning Festival is an invitation to pause\, learn together and make sense of reality without collapsing into urgency\, oversimplification or performance. \n\n\n\nAcross three days\, we’ll explore how narratives\, funding practices and collective learning shape what becomes possible in complex systems. To help us process reality in all it’s heaviness\, we’re inviting a comedian to accompany us in the festival to remind us that humour can be the most honest form of being with such harsh realities. \n\n\n\nDay 1: Climate narratives in action: Attention\, trust\, and imagining alternative futures\n\n\n\nTuesday 10th March 10-12.30 CET \n\n\n\nWith backtracking climate commitments\, shrinking budgets and shifting geopolitical tensions\, it can feel so difficult to reach the people needed for meaningful\, global climate action. \n\n\n\nYet climate narratives continue to travel through mainstream routes like Hollywood and through quieter\, less obvious pathways like choirs\, communities and culture. \n\n\n\nDay 1 invites you into a kaleidoscopic exploration of climate narratives: where they come from\, how they shape attention and trust\, and how they open (or close) our ability to imagine alternative futures. \n\n\n\nWith conversation partners from diverse spaces\, we’ll explore how different forms of storytelling and inherited narratives are being used to: \n\n\n\n\nCapture attention\n\n\n\nShape attitudes and behaviour\n\n\n\nIllustrate possible futures\n\n\n\nCreate momentum for climate action\n\n\n\n\nThis is a space to pause the churn of urgency\, question what stories are doing in the world\, and reflect on the responsibility we carry in the narratives we amplify. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\nDay 2: In-between Spaces: Intermediaries rethinking funding practices\n\n\n\nWednesday 11th March 10-12.30 CETIf you’re holding relationships that don’t neatly align\, translating between languages that don’t quite match\, expected to deliver certainty in situations defined by uncertainty. Accountable to multiple worlds of funders\, communities\, institutions all with different incentives\, timelines\, and definitions of success. \n\n\n\nThis is the work of being in-between. \n\n\n\nDay 2 marks the launch of the Rethinking Intermediaries Series report — a learning paper emerging from shared inquiry with intermediary funders and ecosystem support organisations navigating this in-between space. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we’ll explore live examples of experimental practice spaces in funding and relational work\, opening honest conversations about: \n\n\n\n\nThe challenges of working across worlds\n\n\n\nWhat experimentation looks like in practice\n\n\n\nHow intermediaries are finding new ways to work with complexity\n\n\n\n\nThis day is designed as a learning space… not to resolve tension but to understand it more deeply. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\nDay 3: Systems Innovation Learning Horizons (Closed Group)\n\n\n\nThursday 12th March 10.00-13.00 CET \n\n\n\nThe 2026 SILP Learning Festival will close the current lifecycle of the SILP programme. \n\n\n\nDay 3 will see an invitation-only gathering of some of Climate KIC’s closest partners and collaborators\, and some new friends\, come together in an intentional space to pause and reflect on what we are collectively learning about working in\, with\, and on complex systems. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we will: \n\n\n\n\nReflect on emerging insights from systems innovation practice\n\n\n\nShare live learning and challenges from our own work\n\n\n\nExplore the evolving landscape of systems innovation\n\n\n\nSurface collective needs and opportunities for future learning\n\n\n\n\nThis is a space for honest sense-making\, shared reflection and imagining what learning horizons might come next. \n\n\n\nIf you would like to be a part of this closed group\, please email jessamy.hardie@climate-kic.org (and cc will@orbitallearning.io)

SUMMARY:Connect: Reflections on 2025 & Optimism for 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we reflect on one of the most challenging years\, share key takeaways from COP30\, and explore how our community can drive climate innovation and collaboration in 2026. \n\n\n\n2025 has been a year of extremes. We’ve seen climate events redefine what “crisis” means\, youth-led protests on social conditions\, a mix of setbacks and promising progress in climate targets and ambitions. Against this backdrop\, national delegations reconvened at COP30 in Belém\, Brazil in an extremely fragmented and uncertain political landscape. \n\n\n\nNow\, as the year draws to a close\, it’s time to gather as a Community and discuss: what are the main lessons from 2025? And how can we turn the tensions of recent years – marked by fear and impatience – into sources of resilience and creativity for a more constructive 2026? \n\n\n\nWe’ll kick off with an honest and empowering conversation between Christiana Figueres\, key negotiator behind the 2015 Paris agreement\, and Kirsten Dunlop\, CEO of Climate KIC and one of the leading voices in the systems innovation ecosystem. Together\, they’ll reflect on the global climate landscape and explore pathways for meaningful action. \n\n\n\nNext\, we’ll share highlights from our Community and initiatives for 2026\, setting the stage for collaborations in the upcoming year. \n\n\n\nWhat can you expect? \n\n\n\n\nInsights and takeaways from COP30 Brazil and the defining moments of 2025.\n\n\n\nPriorities\, anticipations and opportunities in 2026.\n\n\n\nA networking space to share commitments and lay the groundwork for collaborations.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\nChristiana Figueres\, Founding Partner of Global Optimism\, Chief Negotiator of the landmark Paris Agreement of 2015Christiana Figueres is an internationally recognized leader on climate action. In her position as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) she steered the global diplomatic effort that culminated in the 2015 Paris Agreement. Today she is the co-founder of Global Optimism\, co-host of the podcast Outrage & Optimism and co-author of “The Future We Choose: Surviving the Climate Crisis”.\n\n\n\nKirsten Dunlop\, CEO of Climate KICA creative\, energetic and inspirational leader\, Dr. Kirsten Dunlop brings to her role a deep conviction in our capacity to learn and evolve into a climate-resilient society\, and her over 30 years of experience catalyzing systemic transformations in a career spanning academia\, consulting\, banking\, and the insurance industry\, across three continents.. As an expert communicator and enthusiast\, she is a sought-after speaker on systems innovation\, financial systems change and societal transformation in the context of climate.

SUMMARY:Connect: Transformation on the Ground. Guidelines for community led innovation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an insightful Community Connect session exploring a community-led\, place-based approach to innovation\, and discover how it can be replicated in your organisation’s operations for greater impact.\n\n\n\nAs climate innovators\, we’re often pushed to think of new bold ideas that are scalable and ‘solve’ urgent issues. However\, what might get missed through such an approach? \n\n\n\nPerhaps systems transformation can be more effective with slow\, relational and place-based approaches. \n\n\n\nBut how can such approaches be integrated in your work as innovators? And how do you convince funders\, investors\, and strategic partners to follow this approach?  \n\n\n\nJoin us for a new Community Connect session as we dive into innovation rooted in community and systemic transformation\, and uncover how it can lead your organisation to achieve greater impact. \n\n\n\nWe’ll discuss with experts from Unearthodox and Post Growth Institute\, who have just published a report on this topic titled ‘Nurturing Innovation: Weaving Containers with Care and Courage for Collective Change‘. With them\, we’ll learn how this model of innovation can be replicated in your work context and scaled to other organisations partnering with you. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMeet the speakers\n\n\n\n\nMarianna Coulentianos is the Post Growth Institute’s Research Lead\, based in the UK.
