SUMMARY:The Emerging Civic Leadership Archetype
DESCRIPTION:There is a new generation of civic leadership emerging across the world. In their new playbook\, From Solutions to Adoption\, HERO analyzed over 180 civic-led wins across 30 countries to understand what it takes for citizen-led initiatives to move from proof of concept into law\, policy and institutions\, and what kinds of civic leadership make that happen in today’s polarised world. \n\n\n\nJoin us to discover evidence\, dive into a case study from a civic leader\, and participate in a frank panel conversation about what civic leadership needs to deliver at scale. \n\n\n\nWhat to expect:\n\n\n\n\nPatterns and insights from HERO’s Playbook on how citizen-led initiatives scale from pilot to systemic policy.\n\n\n\nA case study from Kalpana Arias on London’s Citizens’ Assemblies for Food and Nature\, where residents\, growers and organisers are shaping borough by borough proposals feeding into the Greater London Authority’s environmental plan.\n\n\n\nA panel discussion on the qualities\, skills and support this emerging generation of civic leaders needs\, and what that implies for funders\, city teams and think tanks.\n\n\n\n\nThis session is for you if you work in:\n\n\n\n\nCivic leadership on climate\, democracy or city-level change;\n\n\n\nFoundations\, city teams or intermediary organisations looking to embed participation and mobilisation in their climate work; or\n\n\n\nThink tanks connecting citizen-led initiatives with public policy.\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers and Panellists include:\n\n\n\n\nKalpana Arias\, GROW (Citizens’ Assemblies for Food and Nature\, London)\n\n\n\nSylvain Ferrière\, HERO\n\n\n\nAnthony Zacharzewski\, Democratic Society\n\n\n\nSolla Zophoniasdottir\, Climate KIC\n\n\n\nYiannis Chrysostomidis\, Reos Partners\n\n\n\n\nThis session is hosted by The Collaborative for Systemic Climate Action and presented by HERO. It is part of the Green Skills Festival\, a London Climate Action Week-affiliated initiative. Read more about the Festival below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the organisers\n\n\n\nThe Collaborative for Systemic Climate Action is a unique alliance of 27 globally active implementing partners and trusted funding partners resourcing the bold systemic action this moment demands. We have made an intentional commitment to overcome the fragmentation and competition that all too often undermine climate action by working together\, pooling resources and reimagining how solutions are designed\, financed and delivered. HERO\, Democratic Society and Climate KIC are members of the Collaborative. \n\n\n\nHERO is building a global infrastructure for civic leadership (supporting over 200 leaders in 30 countries through Circles)\, DemSoc helps governments and cities listen to people and involve them directly in climate decisions\, and both are partners in The Collaborative for Systemic Climate Action working together on the civic‑infrastructure part of that alliance – strengthening participation\, mobilisation and democratic processes as a core pillar of systemic climate action. \n\n\n\nAbout the Green Skills Festival\n\n\n\nAs part of London Climate Action Week 2026\, Climate KIC and Kite Insights\, with The Collaborative for Systemic Climate Action and invited partners\, are convening the Green Skills Festival. A full day of conversations\, workshops and interactive sessions exploring the capabilities\, leadership\, collaboration and innovation needed to accelerate systems transformation. \n\n\n\nRooted in these partners’ collective belief that climate action requires radical collaboration across sectors\, disciplines and communities\, the festival brings together practitioners\, educators\, innovators\, community leaders and systems thinkers to share ideas\, challenge assumptions and explore practical pathways for change. \n\n\n\nThroughout the day\, participants will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse programme of sessions\, connect with peers\, and discover new approaches to navigating the complexity of climate transformation. \n\n\n\nRead more and register to all the events that are part of the Festival here.

SUMMARY:The double challenge: Closing the green skills gap\, changing the system
DESCRIPTION:Join this session from our partners Unearthodox for an interactive systems lab exploring how we can create the conditions for a just and regenerative transition.\n\n\n\nThe green skills gap is not only a workforce challenge. It is also a systems gap. \n\n\n\nWhile significant efforts are underway to build the skills needed for a sustainable and green transition\, it is equally important to ask what conditions\, structures\, and systems must change to enable the capabilities required for a just and regenerative transition to emerge and thrive over the long term. \n\n\n\nThis workshop session is for funders\, policymakers\, innovators\, incubation and ecosystem leaders\, systems thinkers\, and transition practitioners who are interested in shaping the conditions that enable future capabilities to take root and thrive. Through a futures-focused and participatory process\, we will explore the system conditions needed to cultivate the capabilities required for a just and regenerative transition\, and identify practical pathways for action and collaboration. \n\n\n\nThis session is part of the Green Skills Festival\, a London Climate Action Week-affiliated initiative.
